Writing & Publishing With Care

Welcome.

If you’re here, you may be thinking about writing a book, working through a manuscript, or trying to understand what publishing might look like for you. You may also be feeling unsure, overwhelmed, hopeful, hesitant, or quietly stuck.

All of that is allowed.

There is nothing you need to prove by being here.
There is no expectation that you know what comes next.
You are not behind.

This page helps you understand how Taylor & Wood Publishing approaches writing and self-publishing, how to use the resources in this hub, and what control you retain throughout the process.

Nothing here is a test.
Nothing needs to be done in a specific order.

What This Space Is For

The Author Resource Hub is designed to support writers at many different stages, including those who:

  • are exploring an idea without knowing what it might become
  • are writing slowly, unevenly, or in bursts
  • are returning to a project after time away
  • have finished a draft and feel unsure what comes next
  • are curious about self-publishing but not ready to commit

You do not need confidence to belong here.
You do not need to arrive with a plan.

Curiosity and care for your work are enough.

What We Mean by Self-Publishing

Taylor & Wood Publishing is an inclusive self-publishing house.

Self-publishing means that you, the author:

  • retain ownership of your work
  • make final decisions about your book
  • remain central to every stage of the process

Our role is to offer guidance, structure, and professional support.

Self-publishing does not mean doing everything alone.
It also does not mean handing control over.

We work collaboratively, explaining options clearly so decisions can be made with understanding rather than pressure.

Inclusion and Accessibility

Inclusion is not an add-on at Taylor & Wood Publishing. It shapes how we work, how we communicate, and how our resources are designed.

We recognise that writers bring different identities, abilities, neurotypes, life experiences, responsibilities, and energy levels to their work. There is no single pace, process, or publishing journey that suits everyone.

Our commitment to inclusion means we aim to:

  • avoid urgency-driven or exclusionary language
  • offer flexibility rather than rigid pathways
  • respect different learning styles and capacities
  • support neurodivergent, disabled, marginalised, and first-time authors
  • centre consent, clarity, and care at every stage

If you have access needs or would benefit from information being shared in a particular way, you are welcome to let us know. There is no expectation to disclose personal details — only what helps you feel supported.

How to Use the Resource Hub

There is no correct way to move through these resources.

Some writers want to understand the publishing process early.
Some prefer to focus on writing first.
Some return only when questions arise.

You are welcome to read selectively, skip what doesn’t feel relevant, return later, and take breaks.

These resources are here to support your thinking, not to create another list of things you “should” be doing.

Learning does not need to be linear to be meaningful.

Public Resources and Deeper Support

Many resources in this hub are freely available to everyone. These offer reassurance, clarity, and high-level understanding around writing and self-publishing.

Some deeper, more applied guidance is shared directly with authors we are working with. This allows complex decisions to be supported with care and context, rather than navigated alone.

There is no expectation to move beyond public resources unless and until it feels right for you.

Writing and Publishing Are Not Linear

One of the most common misconceptions about writing and publishing is that they move in a straight line.

In reality, most writers experience pauses and returns, shifts in direction, periods of doubt, and moments of clarity followed by uncertainty.

None of these mean you are failing. They mean you are engaged in meaningful creative work.

You are allowed to move slowly.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to ask questions more than once.

Before You Go Further

As you explore this hub, you may notice moments where something resonates — and moments where something doesn’t.

Both are useful.

Take what supports you.
Leave what doesn’t.
Return when you need to.

There is no finish line here.

Where You Might Go Next (Optional)

You might choose to explore writing and creative development resources, read about the self-publishing process, look at confidence and sustainability guidance, or learn about submissions and working with us.

Or you may choose to pause here.

All of these choices are valid.

Your book matters.
Your process matters.
And you deserve publishing support that recognises both.

This page is part of the Taylor & Wood Publishing Author Resource Hub, created to support writers with inclusion, clarity, and care.
