This page answers some of the questions we’re most often asked. If something isn’t covered here, you’re always welcome to get in touch — there’s no expectation that you already know how publishing works.

Do I need a finished manuscript to contact you?

No. You’re welcome to get in touch at any stage — whether you have an early idea, a partial draft, or a completed manuscript. We’re happy to talk things through and help you understand what support might be helpful to next.

Do you only work with certain types of authors?

We work with a wide range of authors. This includes first-time writers, disabled and neurodivergent authors, people with caring or health responsibilities, organisations, and anyone who feels traditional publishing routes don’t quite fit.

You don’t need prior publishing experience to work with us.

Is Taylor & Wood Publishing a traditional publisher?

We’re an independent, author-led publishing house. That means we work collaboratively with authors and shape the publishing process around their needs, rather than following a single fixed model.

Our approach sits outside traditional gatekeeping structures and prioritises flexibility, transparency, and care.

What kinds of support do you offer?

Support varies depending on where you are in your journey. This can include book coaching, editorial guidance, publishing and production support, and help with understanding next steps.

Not every enquiry leads to full publishing — sometimes a conversation or a small piece of support is the right place to begin.

How much does it cost to work with you?

Costs depend on the type and amount of support you’re looking for.

Book coaching is charged hourly, and publishing services are usually priced per page. Any costs are discussed clearly in advance, and there is no obligation to proceed unless it feels right for you.

Will my book be printed for me?

We work alongside a small number of trusted printers and can support you in sending your book to print if you wish. You’re also free to use a printer of your choice — we can provide print-ready files and guidance either way.

The decision always remains with the author.

Do you help with distribution?

We can talk through distribution options with you, including online platforms and independent bookshops. Some routes may involve additional costs, which are always discussed openly and in advance.

There is no expectation that authors follow a single distribution path.

Do I have to sell my book on Amazon?

No. Selling on Amazon is optional. Some authors choose it, others don’t. We’ll explain the options available and support you in deciding what feels right for you and your book.

What is legal deposit, and do I need to worry about it?

In the UK, a copy of every published book must be sent to the British Library under legal deposit requirements. We can support you with this step and make sure it’s handled correctly.

How long does the publishing process take?

Timelines vary depending on the project, the support needed, and the author’s circumstances. We don’t impose fixed schedules — instead, we work at a pace that feels manageable and realistic.

What if I’m not sure whether I’m ready to publish?

That’s completely fine. Many authors come to us with questions rather than decisions. We’re happy to have an initial conversation to explore where you are and what might help, without any pressure to move forward.

How do I get in touch?

You can contact us in whichever way feels most comfortable:

A short message telling us a little about your idea and what you’re looking for is more than enough.

A final note

Publishing can feel complicated and intimidating. We aim to make it clearer, kinder, and more human.

If you’re unsure about anything at all, please reach out — we’re always happy to help.

Remember, there is no such thing as a daft question.
